Charles Cash was born at Stockport, Cheshire, and enlisted as a Private into the 44th Regiment on 19 November 1858, a weaver by trade. He was killed in action at the attack on the Peiho Forts, Taku, on 21 August 1860. The 44th Regiment had 10 men killed and 4 mortally wounded, and won two Victoria Crosses in this action.
