Joseph Haywood was born in Lincoln in 1876, and attested for the Coldstream Guards at London in March 1896. He served with the Regiment in South Africa, October 1899 - July 1902 (papers give entitlement to all clasps, except ‘Paardeberg’). Haywood was discharged, 29 March 1908, having served 12 years with the Colours.
