H. A. E. Wright was employed by the Public Works Department, and served during the Great War with the 5th Calcutta Battalion, Indian Defence Force. He was awarded the Volunteer Force Long Service Medal as a Sergeant in the Lucknow Auxiliary Force per Indian Army Order 832 of November 1927, and was further awarded the Efficiency Medal (India) as a Sergeant in the Lucknow Rifles, Auxiliary Force India, per Indian Army Order 184 of March 1936.
