Rupert Barron Hewitt was born in Hastings, Sussex in 1883, and was employed in the Tea Trade prior to enlistment. The latter took place at Hornsey in February 1901. Hewitt re-engaged for service during the Great War in December 1915, and was discharged as Temporary Corporal from the Royal Army Service Corps in April 1920.

Sold with the following original documentation: letter of reference from employer, dated 23 February 1901; letter of reference from officer in the Middlesex Regiment addressed to the ‘Recruiting Officer, S.A. Constabulary’, dated 24 September 1902; Certificate of Character; Certificate of Discharge, dated 1 August 1902; Soldier’s Small Book; and Certificate of Discharge, dated 7 December 1915.
