Five: Chief Petty Officer Steward A. S. Bourner, Royal Navy

Albert Stanley Bourner was born in Peckham, London, on 3 October 1901, and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 1st Class on 21 August 1919, having previously served as a Seaman in the Mercantile Marine. He became an Officers’ Steward on 21 October of that year, and was advanced Petty Officer Steward on 1 June 1933. He joined the surveying ship H.M.S. Endeavour on 19 September of that year, and was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 1 November 1934. He was advanced Chief Petty Officer Steward on 10 September 1941, and served during the latter part of the Second World War at H.M.S. Baldur, the Royal Navy’s shore establishment at Reykjavik in Iceland. He was finally shore pensioned on 8 October 1945.
