Bank of England, Matthew Marshall (era of), a booklet entitled ‘The Bank Note of the Future’ by J. Anderson, and printed in Glasgow in 1865, consisting of an attractive turquoise cover, four printed pages and a ‘specimen’ of the aforementioned banknote of the future on thin translucent paper. The subject matter is a treatise or manifesto calling for a national and standardised currency to be issued across all nations of the United Kingdom, and outlining the benefits of such a thing. The note itself is for £5, dated 1 August 1865, and features Queen Victoria and the Royal coat of arms. the whole booklet has been folded long ways and there is a little damage to the spine but overall excellent condition, note itself extremely fine, very rare and fascinating
