Bank of England, Matthew Marshall (era of), a fully printed trial note for £5, 11 August 1943, serial number 1050, consisting of a standard ‘black and white’ £5 printed on a large format sheet of paper, watermarked with the Royal coat of arms, and printed with a highly ornate border and blue underprint, incorporating allegorical maidens, several different currencies and impressive early three-dimensional effects, with the title ‘Papier de Surete pour Papier Monnaie’ (security paper for paper money), French manuscript annotation along lower and right margins, a few stains and edge nicks, very fine and extremely rare
