Auction Catalogue
South Africa 1877-79, 1 clasp, 1879 (1777 Bandmr. H. F. Bullard, 2/24th Foot) suspension claw refixed, otherwise extremely fine £3500-4000
Ex Watts Collection, March 1964.
Harry T. Bullard was killed in action at Isandhlwana on 22 January 1879; his effects were claimed by his mother-in-law.
Norman Holmes credits Bullard with the ‘1877-8-9’ clasp in The Noble 24th, and, given the above Medal’s refixed suspension claw, it seems more than likely a member of the late Bandmaster’s family at sometime exchanged this with the single-dated ‘1879’ clasp to commemorate the actual year of his death.
