Arthur John Atkins, living in Wandsworth, enlisted at Westminster. Serving with the 1st/2nd Battalion London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers) he was killed in action on the ‘First Day of the battle of the Somme, 1st July 1916, aged 23 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme. Sold with copied extract from the War Diary of the 1st/2nd London Regiment for 1st July 1916.
