An early 19th century Portuguese silver beaker, of flared form engraved with period coat of arms, motto below ‘FINEM RESPICE’, parcel gilt interior, to the base maker’s mark ‘IMS’, oval punch with crowned letter ‘L’ for Lisbon 1803-13, height 10cm. £300-£500
This beaker was probably acquired or made for a British Officer, serving in the Peninsular Wars (1807-1814), hence the Coat of Arms for possibly Bligh, Pattenson or Fairbanks.
