British military: A silver cased ‘Trench’ wristwatch, by Rolex, 1914, the white enamel dial with black outline Arabic numerals and outer minutes track, blued steel skeleton hands and subsidiary seconds dial, signed 15 jewel movement, the silver case signed and bearing import marks for 1914, reverse inscribed ‘LIEUT C.M. BLACK, C.F.A’, with wire lugs, to narrow black leather strap, dial diameter 30mm. £150-£200

The owner of the watch was Lieutenant Charles McEwan Black, who was born in Winnipeg on 16 October 1891, and served with the Canadian Field Artillery during the Great War. He died in Montreal in 1956.
