Ashantee 1873-74, 1 clasp, Coomassie (167. Pte. R. Murphy, 2Bn. Rifle Bde. 1873-4) nearly extremely fine £280-£320

Richard Murphy was born in Dublin in 1836 and attested for the Rifle Brigade on 10 August 1857. He served with the 2nd Battalion in India during the latter stages of the Indian Mutiny from 7 April 1858 (entitled to a no clasp Indian Mutiny Medal), and was discharged at Calcutta on 14 December 1867. He re-engaged in London eight months later on 12 August 1868, and saw further service during the Ashantee War 1873-74. He died at Gibraltar in July 1875.
