German Red Cross Order Citation.
An impressive and rare citation for the Cross of Merit of the German Red Cross Order awarded to Commander Roberts, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. This highly unusual award for the Cross of Merit relates to the event in June 1937, the battleship Deutschland serving the Spanish nationalist Forces of General Franco was attacked by Republican bombers suffering injuries to sailors on board. The Deutchland pulled into Gibraltar seeking medical help for the wounded sailors, which was affected by Royal Naval personnel. The citation complete with the Diplomatic seal of the German Consulate in Gibraltar. One hole through the citation at the lower leg of the ‘R’ of ‘Roberts’, once folded, generally good condition, scarce £200-£240
