Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., V.R., narrow suspension, engraved naming (Willm. K. Hein. Ships Cook H.M.S Amethyst.) very fine £120-£160
William Kent Hein was born in Falmouth, Cornwall on 15 July 1842. He enlisted into the Royal Navy in May 1859 as a Boy 2nd Class and was posted to H.M.S. Russell. He transferred to the gunboat H.M.S. Haughty in May 1862, remaining with her until May 1867. He served aboard H.M.S. Amethyst from June 1874 to June 1878 and it was whilst in the crew of this ship he was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. Following this he transferred to H.M.S. Royal Adelaide and then onto H.M.S. Impregnable shortly after, and was invalided out of the service in July 1882 following treatment at Plymouth Hospital.
