The Bedfordshire Times and Independent, 10 June 1938, carried the following article:
‘Bronze medals have been awarded by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to Messrs. R. Sturgess, G. Chadwick, R. Clarke, and T. W. Carter, and a merit certificate to Mr. L. Page, for their action in breaking into burning farm buildings at Streatley and rescuing cattle.’
