Sold with a note from Dorotheum stating that the original collector who owned the coin died before 1935.
The Castle Comer colliery, located north of Kilkenny, was inherited by Anne, Dowager Countess of Ormonde, from her father, Lord Wandesford. Anne was the patron of the nearby village of Castle Comer, leasing the operation of the local coal mines to entrepreneurs
