Frederick William Bedford Dorgan was born in Bow, London, in 1874 and enlisted in the British South Africa Police on 19 November 1897. He was discharged by purchase on 4 March 1899, and re-enlisted in the Protectorate Regiment Frontier Force on 19 August 1899, being posted to A Squadron. He served during the Boer War at the Defence of Mafeking, and was slightly wounded by a shell outside the B.S.A.P. Fort at Mafeking on 8 December 1899. He subsequently served as a Conductor in the Remount Depot at Worcester, Cape Colony, and died on 28 November 1945, aged 71.
