D.S.M. London Gazette 9 March 1943:
‘For bravery and coolness in action while serving in Defensively Equipped Merchant Ships during operations in North Africa.’
Norman Watson, a native of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, was awarded his Distinguished Service Medal for his services in D.E.M.S. Ocean Volga, and was invested with his D.S.M. at Buckingham Palace on 20 July 1943.
Sold together with the recipient’s parchment Gunnery History Sheet; Admiralty letter announcing the award of the D.S.M.; D.E.M.S. cloth insignia; H.M.S. Raleigh Handbook named to the recipient; a group photograph featuring the recipient; and a Buckingham Palace Investiture ticket.
