An attractive enamelled India General Service Medal 1854-95.
India General Service 1854-95, with suspension but lacking retaining rod and clasp(s), the obverse showing the diademed head of Queen Victoria, as normal, the reverse completely smoothed with the design of Victory crowning a seated warrior finely enamelled, the edge impressed in the style associated with the Umbeyla campaign ‘Provost Marshal D. Buchanan’, half-hearted attempt to obliterate surname, edge bruising, generally very fine and a most unusual example £100-£200
D. Buchanan served as Provost Marshal to the Central India Field Force, commanded by General Sir Hugh Rose, during the Indian Mutiny.
