Sir William Osler (1849-1919), Canadian-born physician, Regius Professor of Medicine at Oxford, 1904-19; a number of prizes were named after him including this one, only awarded once every five years. Sir Arthur Frederick Hurst (1879-1944), lecturer in medicine at Oxford, another distinguished physician and author of Hereditary familial congenital haemorrhagic nephritis occurring in sixteen individuals in three generations, relating to Alport’s syndrome.
