James Parsons attested for the Dorsetshire Regiment and served with the 2nd Battalion in South Africa during the Boer War, and with the same Battalion during the Great War in the Hedjaz theatre of War from 6 November 1914. He was discharged on 13 January 1916, and was awarded a Silver War Badge.
