John Craigie Cunningham was born in Scotland on 28 August 1885 and having emigrated to Canada attested for the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force at Claresholm, Alberta, on 3 February 1915. He served during the Great War on the Western Front initially with the 13th Canadian Infantry Battalion, before transferring to Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry on 4 November 1917, and was killed in action on 26 August 1918. He is buried in Vis-en-Artois British Cemetery, Haucourt, France.
