Herman Barnes Edwards was born in Pembroke in 1885 and attested for the Pembroke Yeomanry on 27 April 1908. He served with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force during the Great War from 4 March 1916, and transferred to the Machine Gun Corps on 12 October 1916. He was promoted Sergeant on 20 November 1916, and subsequently served on the Western Front in 1918.
