Carib War 1773 (Treaty of St Vincent), copper, at variance to the norm with the obverse bust within a beaded border and the reverse encircled by a wreath of laurel, fitted with contemporary loop for suspension, numerous edge bruises, otherwise nearly very fine and scarce £140-£180

Struck to commemorate the Treaty of St Vincent in 1773 following a rebellion by the Caribs on the island of St Vincent in 1772-73. The medals were authorised by the Legislative Assembly of the island and awarded to those who took part in the suppression of the native rebellion. The combined British and local force under the command of Major-General William Dalrymple included the 14th, 31st and 70th Foot regiments.
