The following details are taken from a copied news cutting (circa 1900) that accompanies the group: ‘Thomas Tuersley enlisted in the 3rd Buffs in 1845. He left the service in 1886, after having put in over 21 years with the colours. During that time he earned the Crimean and Turkish medals, and has now received the Canadian medal just issued. He has six sons in the Army. Five of his sons chose the Artillery for their career. Frank is the baby of the family [details given of the other brothers], he being only 18, though he has been in the service since 1895. He is a trumpeter in the 6th Field Battery at Cawnpore.’
