Five: Flight Sergeant L. R. Gray, Royal Air Force

1939-45 Star; Defence and War Medals; Royal Air Force L.S. & G.C., G.VI.R.,
1st issue (364809 F./Sgt., R.A.F.); Imperial Service Medal, E.II.R., 2nd issue (Leslie Ronald Gray), in its Royal Mint case of issue, together with the King’s Badge, in its card box of issue, the first four mounted as worn, the last officially corrected, good very fine and better (6) £120-150

Leslie Ronald Gray is believed to have been mentioned in despatches for his work on a special programme to invent an aerial that could be attached to R.A.F.-issue rubber dinghies, thereby providing downed aircrew with an emergency radio beacon (accompanying notes written by his son refer).

Sold with the recipient’s original M.I.D. certificate, dated 14 June 1945; Central Chancery forwarding document for his Imperial Service Medal, dated 25 June 1968; and Air Council forwarding certificate for his 1939-45 awards.
