A Great War ‘Western Front’ M.C. attributed to Second Lieutenant C. J. Gandy, 234th Field Company, Royal Engineers, who was killed in action on 31 July 1917
Military Cross, G.V.R., unnamed as issued, contained in a contemporary glazed display frame, with a studio portrait photograph of recipient in uniform; together with illuminated memorial scroll and Buckingham Palace letter, these contained in two seperate frames, extremely fine £300-350
M.C. London Gazette 21 December 1916 ‘For conspicuous gallantry in action. He led his men during the attack with great courage and determination. Later he rendered most valuable service during the consolidation and in evacuating the wounded.’
Clement Joseph Gandy was killed in action in France and Flanders on 31 July 1917, whilst serving with the 234th Field Company, Royal Engineers. He is buried at New Irish Farm Cemetery, Leper, West Vlaanderen, Belgium.
