A Second World War D.F.C. awarded to Flight Lieutenant E. Moon, Royal Air Force
Distinguished Flying Cross, G.VI.R., reverse officially dated ‘1944’ and privately engraved ‘Flt. Lt. E. Moon, 172116’, in its Royal Mint case of issue, the lid inscribed with a good luck message, good very fine, together with original Buckingham Palace forwarding letter in the name of ‘Flight Lieutenant Ernest Moon, D.F.C.’ £600-800

Ernest Moon, who trained as a pilot in Canada under the Joint Air Training Plan, was decorated for his services in No. 115 Squadron, a Lancaster unit operating out of Witchford, Cambridgeshire. At the time of being recommended for his D.F.C., he had completed 27 sorties and a total of 162 hours operational flying time.
