D.C.M. London Gazette 21 October 1918 ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when his company, holding an isolated work in No Mans Land, was subjected to an intense artillery bombardment. The N.C.O’s. of two Lewis-Gun sections were wounded and he took command of the sections and mounted the guns on what remained of the parapet. He has always shown courage and initiative of a high order.’
