A mounted group of eleven miniature dress medals representative of those worn by Major F. A. Tilston, Essex-Scottish Regiment, Canadian Infantry Corps, Victoria Cross; Order of St. John, silver and enamel; 1939-45 Star; France and Germany Star; Defence; Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, with overseas service clasp; War Medal 1939-45; Coronation 1953; Canadian Confederation Medal; Jubilee 1977, Canadian issue; Canadian Decoration, E.II.R., mounted Court style for wear, good very fine and better (11) £120-180

Sold with the Tilston’s regimental tie and a memo written and signed by Tilston, dated Aurora, Ontario, 24 October 1977, ‘Dear John, Thank you for your interest in my military career and your desire to put together a collection of military artifacts. .... After 35 years, I have to tell you all my military gear has either worn out or been discarded. .... My medals and other decorations I continue to wear from time to time and at time of my death will become the possession of the Royal Canadian Military Institute for display in the museum. I have been able to locate a tie I used to wear. Officers in the Canadian Army always wear their tie - even in action. The tartan is Rob Roy our official tie. ... [Signed] F. A. Tilston’. Also sold with the handwritten envelope for the above, the video ‘A Vimy Veteran Remembers’, which includes an interview with Tilston V.C., a copied photograph and copied details of his miltary career and V.C. action.
