Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.VI.R., 1st issue (JX. 159041 J. V. Reed, A.B., H.M.S. Carthage) good very fine £60-80
H.M.S. Carthage was a P. & O. liner, requisitioned by the Admiralty for service as an armed merchant cruiser. In October 1941, as part of the hastily-assembled Force F, she assisted in the interception of a Vichy French convoy in the Indian Ocean, and brought the Cap Padaran into Port Elizabeth under tow (and guard). During the course of 1943, in common with some of her sister ships, she was converted into use as a troopship.
