Messina Earthquake Medal sold with a named forwarding letter from ‘His Britannic Majesty’s Ambassador at Rome.’ Able Seaman Ellis was one of 35 men of H.M.S. Philomel to have landed and rendered assistance in the rescue operations in Southern Italy. Sold with two contemporary postcards illustrating the ruins at Messina following the earthquake.
