Lionel Edward Warren entered the Royal Artillery in 1899 and served almost immediately in South Africa during the Boer War (Medal with 5 clasps). During the Great War, he saw service in France and Belgium, with 58th Battery R.F.A., from 6 October 1914 until February 1915, and from July 1915 until October 1918, latterly in command of 79 Brigade, Royal Field Artillery.
