M.M. Second Award Bar London Gazette 23 July 1919.
John B. Calvert was a native of Whickham, County Durham. He served during the Great War with the 4th Battalion, Coldstream Guards (Pioneers) in the French theatre of war from 2 November 1915.
Calvert was one of two men of the 4th Battalion, Coldstream Guards, to be awarded the M.M. and Bar (the other recipient being Private H. Hardwick); consequently this award is not unique to the Battalion.
