Thomas Whelan attested for the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and served with the 2nd Battalion during the Punjab Frontier campaign of 1897-98, and later during the Boer War. He is additionally entitled to a Queen’s South Africa Medal with the clasps Cape Colony and Orange Free State.
