Geoffrey Lloyd Wheatley Watson was commissioned Lieutenant in the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry on 8 September 1947, having previously held a commission in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, and transferred to the Royal Artillery on 20 December of that year. He transferred again, this time to the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, on 1 July 1949, and was promoted Captain on 28 September 1952.
