Alexander Davison’s Medal for The Nile 1798, bronze-gilt, engraved in the reverse field ‘Pp. Larcher 1799’, fitted with post but lacking loop or ring for suspension, gilt worn overall, good fine £100-£140
Pp Larcher is almost certainly Philip Larcher of the Goliath, from London, aged 40 and a Landsman. The gilding and engraving most likely took place on board ship, the date 1799 referring to to when the medals were delivered to the ships in August of that year.
