14th century, a bronze Lion of St Mark, a solid cast lion with head facing forwards with a protruding tongue, seated on its hind legs with a looping tail; a circular opening on the back where the wings were attached, 37mm long by 30mm high by 17mm wide. Right front leg missing, otherwise olive-green patina with clear detailing £100-£150
Provenance: Found in South Oxfordshire
The lion is possibly part of an altar cross representing one of the four Evangelists
