Anglo-Saxon, a gilt-bronze circular shield boss apex mount inset within an iron base, mid-6th century, the central design chip carved with a spiral cross surrounded by two segmented animals in profile of Salins style 1 with a crouching leg with claws, and a rounded head, 40mm diameter by 10mm deep. Very fine with deposits in the recesses

Provenance: Found in South Kesteven (Lincolnshire), June 2021 (PAS LIN-1F3D6D). Iron shield bosses are usually plain, but a few examples have an attached decorative mount; three others are recorded on the PAS website
