14th century, bronze circular seal matrix, 2.2cm diameter by 2.9cm high, with conical hexagonal handle terminating in a trefoil-shaped loop; the face has a design of a man (Jacob) standing beside a ladder of seven rungs, crescent and star above with the inscription savnte lavrenei (Save the Day). Good very fine £100-£120
Found at Broughton in North Yorkshire
