Ltd. fitted case of issue; Military Cross, G.V.R.; 1914-15 Star (Capt: & Adjt: F. O. Thorne. Manch: R.); British War and Victory Medals (Capt. F. O. Frank Oswald Thorne was born on 21 May 1892, and educated at St Paul’s School and Christ Church, Oxford (Scholar), 2nd Class Hon. Mods., 1913; B.A. (War Degree), 1918; 2nd Class Theology, 1921; M.A. 1935. Served during the Great War with the 13th (Service) Battalion, Manchester Regiment, captain & adjutant, 1915-17; brigade major, No. 1 Section Tyne Garrison, 1918-19 (wounded, M.C.). Ordained in 1922, he was curate of All Souls’, Clapton Park, 1922-25; joined Universities Mission to Central Africa, 1925; first warden of S. Cyprian’s Theological College, Tunduru, Diocese of Masasi, Tanganyika Territory, 1930-34; vicar-general, Diocese of Masasi, 1934-35; Bishop of Nyasaland, 1936-61, and served as Dean of Province of Central Africa, 1955-61; D.D. Lambeth, 1958. The Ry. Rev. Thorne, C.B.E., M.C., died on 18 September 1981.
