M.C. London Gazette 13 September 1918:
‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in command of a company. When the troops on both flanks were forced back he at once realised the situation and withdrew his company to the support line, where he held the enemy. He then organised and led a successful counter-attack, regaining his original position and enabling the flanks to do likewise.’
Francis Hubert Palmer was born in Hereford England in August 1877. He emigrated to Canada, and served with the 88th Regiment, Victoria Fusiliers prior to the Great War. Palmer subsequently served with the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, and was commissioned into the 9th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment in March 1915.
