George John Duncan was born in Dublin, Ireland, and attested for the Hampshire Regiment at Winchester in February 1900. He served with the 2nd Battalion in South Africa, March 1901 - August 1902, and was discharged ‘Medically unfit’ in November 1902, having been injured in a railway accident at Barberton, 30 March 1902.
