Frank Cawte was born in Southampton, Hampshire, and attested for the Hampshire Regiment at Winchester in December 1884. He served with the 2nd Battalion in East India, January 1886 - November 1888; Burma, November 1888 - January 1891 and East India, January 1891 - November 1892 (I.G.S. Medal Roll gives his initial as ‘J’ as named on medal). He was discharged, 2 December 1896.
