Three: Private P. O’Neill, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, who was killed in action during the 5th Battalion’s attack of Kidney Hill, Gallipoli, on 15 August 1915, on which date the Battalion suffered over 350 casualties

Patrick O’Neill was born in Spennymore, Co. Durham, and attested for he Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers at Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He served with the 5th Battalion during the Great War at Gallipoli from 10 July 1915, as part of the 10th (Irish) Division, and was killed in action on 15 August 1915, on which date the Battalion was involved in the attack on Kidney Hill, and suffered 6 officers (including their commanding officer) and 28 other ranks killed; 14 officers and 230 other ranks wounded; and 78 other ranks missing. O’Neill has no known grave and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Turkey.
