Frederick Charles Petts was born in South Shields, Co. Durham, on 22 December 1873 and joined the Royal Navy as a Stoker Second Class on 13 June 1893. Advanced Stoker on 1 July 1894, he served in H.M.S. Forte from 5 November 1895, and died of enteric fever at Malta Hospital on 7 August 1897.
