James McKenzie was born in the Parish of Maingath, Dumfriesshire, around 1791. A labourer, he attested for the Royal Artillery on 29 January 1808 and is confirmed on the roll as entitled to Medal and clasp, Toulouse, whilst serving with the Royal Horse Artillery. He was discharged in September 1827.
