A Baptist, Scott attested for the British Army upon the outbreak of war and is confirmed in service with the 2/6th Battalion, Duke of Wellington’s Regiment in March 1941. A skilled driver and mechanic, he was posted to the Royal Armoured Corps in the spring of 1942 and served overseas in North West Europe.
