James Stone was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1875. A gymnastics instructor, he attested at Newbridge for the Imperial Yeomanry Volunteers on 1 February 1900. Posted as Trooper to the 61st (South Irish Horse) Company, 17th Battalion, Imperial Yeomanry, he died of disease at Umtali, Rhodesia, on 5 June 1900.
