The Hublot watch brand was founded by the Italian watchmaker Carlo Crocco in Nyon, Switzerland in 1980. The company was originally launched as Hublot MDM Genève, Crocco chose the name ‘Hublot’ after the French word for porthole. These original pieces combined precious metal cases with rubber straps which was unusual at the time.
